Frequently Asked Questions

Below is information relating to some of the common ways in which Notary services are required.

What is Notarization?

Broadly speaking, notarization is the authentication of a document as
genuine or the verification that a statement was made under oath. The
person who makes this authentication or verification is a public official,
the Notary Public. Notarization provides assurance that the particular
document is authentic and intended to be in force.

There are certain results that no Notary act ever accomplishes:

  • Notarization does not guarantee the truth or accuracy of statements in
a document. The Notary Public has no obligation to verify a document’s
    contents.
  • Notarization does not legalize or validate a document. A will or other
legal paper that contains invalidating flaws before notarization will
    contain the same flaws afterward.

What is a signing agent?

A signing agent is a public notary who is an expert in loan closing documents. A lender, title company, or escrow service may hire a signing agent to handle getting documents delivered, signed, or processed efficiently and on time.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, although we are often able to accommodate walk in clients, it is preferable to book an appointment in advance to ensure a Notary will be available to see you. This ensures we have all necessary documents in advance and that the appointment is as brief as possible for you.

Why do I need to bring proof of identity and proof of address?

One of the Notary’s fundamental duties is to properly identify his or her client. This requirement is laid down by our practice rules and legislation.

How much will it cost?

This will depend on the document being certified and exactly what the notary is required to do. Our notaries will be happy to discuss this with you prior to your appointment (please note it will often be necessary to see the document in advance in order to provide an accurate fee estimate).

Where do you provide your services?

We will come to you at a place that is convenient for you. This can be your home or office, a restaurant, or even a nursing home, hospital, or federal, state or county correctional facility.
